Culture

Television is a worldwide resource used in our time of society. When I watch television it consists of children shows, biographical movies and a few selective hip hop artists. Although television is said to have a negative influence on teens, it is the most influential part of my culture.
A very influential music artist I discovered on television is Tupac Shakur. His songs about living at a poverty level of life ruled by white society teaches me how to pursue my dreams of being a rap artist, how to stand strong through every knee swallowing situation, and more importantly he teaches me how important it is to accommodate people after you help yourself. One song Tupac released in 1992 called “Changes” said,”I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere unless we share with each other. We gotta start makin' changes. Learn to see me as a brother 'stead of 2 distant strangers. And that's how it's supposed to be. How can the Devil take a brother if he's close to me? I'd love to go back to when we played as kids but things changed, and that's the way it is”. He’s saying he loves his race even though they do things he wouldn’t approve of and if we don’t work together to become something as a race then nothing is all we will ever be able to be.” Tupac also said “We can't have peace, till the niggas get a piece too ” niggas meaning black race this quote is self explanatory.
My favorite biographical movie hands down is “Notorious B.I.G.” It didn’t only show me the “do’s” but it showed me the “don’ts” of life. It tells and shows me how if you don’t give respect then you expect it either. This movie showed a simple boy grow up to be the man. From being the man moving rocks on the corner to the master of the microphone Yes, even though he sold what the government classifies as illegal drugs he relapsed on life and took his career into tight clutch. That’s what everyone wants right?
SpongeBob to me is the sillies but funniest T.v. show of all time. He shows kids and everyone that watches it that putting on a smile is easy. No matter what situation he gets himself in he always manages to smile. The vibe SpongeBob gives off makes me feel like a smile is mandatory to do anything. He also makes friends with people that don’t exactly match his personality, but whoever the person SpongeBob changes his attitude and always has fun. He teaches me to also look past the outside and befriend people that are gay on the inside and out, and don’t be fooled because looks can be deceiving.
Television morally is my culture. I watch it every day, but the effect on different people is different. Some peoples conscience act different and people can’t distinguish right from wrong, but I recognize the theme or underlying message of the movie or show. I think T.v. is so influential because kids grow up idolizing it. Since artist movie stars doctors ect. Are o T.v. they think they have to copy what they see on t.v. Recent rap artist b.o.b said “it’s the term monkey see monkey do” I agree That’s how television inspires my culture.
